Retail Real Estate Continues to Soar in DFW

With nearly 6 million square feet of retail real estate planned throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, developers are preparing the most construction in North Texas since the Great Recession, according to The Dallas Business Journal.

But as they say, all good things must come to an end, right? Not quite yet, experts say. Demand isn’t expected to subside anytime soon, with 23 consecutive months of positive absorption and with occupancy hitting historic levels at over 95 percent.

What other trends can be seen in the retail sector? The DBJ outlines the following:

  • Restaurants are large draws for the community and are thus becoming anchors to retail-driven developments
  • Grocery stores are offering restaurant-style services
  • Redevelopment is underway within the urban core bringing multi-level retail to Dallas
  • Rents continue to rise for well-located retail real estate
  • Big-box retail developments are under construction along the 380 corridor, such as Lowe’s and Home Depot stores
